Falls Church City Remodel
We remodeled this 1950s ranch home, building two separate additions and completely transforming the interior space. Our clients wanted the project to fit into the neighborhood and match the character of the original ranch home, while adding lots of natural light and higher ceilings.
We constructed a new one-story addition over a conditioned crawl space running the length of the rear of the house and a separate one-story side addition to accommodate a new office/ bedroom space. The kitchen was relocated to the new addition, freeing up the previous kitchen area for a new configuration that now includes a mudroom, laundry, powder room, and pantry. This corridor is trimmed out in nickel gap wood paneling and custom built-ins and can be closed off from the formal living areas with a new pocket door.
The newly designed kitchen has white shaker cabinetry with Carrara marble countertops. The client loved the idea of no upper cabinets, allowing for more windows and tons natural light. A sliding barn door conceals the large pantry with built-in shelving from the main kitchen. We moved the living room to the new addition with the kitchen to create a more open concept. The area where the living room was previously is now a formal dining room. We installed more built-ins flanking the existing fireplace.
The rear addition also has a new primary suite area with his and her closets and a primary bathroom. We installed new white oak hardwood flooring in the new spaces to match the existing home and remodeled the guest bathroom. We completed the remodeling project by renovating the kids’ bedrooms, adding wood paneling and trim.
